I used to think LinkedIn was dumb.

LinkedIn seemed like a mix of a glorified resume and a place for colleagues and alumni to peacock at each other. While I’d heard about salespeople generating leads or nudging a deal toward the close on LinkedIn, all the messages I would get were spam. But when I finally started to take LinkedIn seriously, everything changed.

LinkedIn is a powerful platform for salespeople to build a B2B network and close sales.

Here are 5 strategies for LinkedIn that have helped me to close over $1M in sales each year:

1. Creating a Connection With Prospects

One of the first things I do every time I contact a new high-ticket prospect is to connect with them on LinkedIn.

This does a couple of things:

First, it subtly establishes in the prospect’s mind that you want to create a long-term relationship. Adding the client on LinkedIn addresses an often unspoken objection about wanting an ongoing relationship instead of something more transactional. The customer needs to know that you aren’t some fly-by-night hustler who will take their money and leave them high and dry. Adding them on LinkedIn sends a positive signal that you want to build a deeper connection.
