Students With Autism Will Change the World — But Schools Need to Catch Up First

Students with autism can change the world, but our education system must support them first.

Kids with autism will grow up to contribute a unique perspective to the fields of business, science, social work, art, and community. Embracing neurodiversity means more ideas and more creativity in all fields.

However, accessibility-oriented education can be the difference between failure and success for these students.

Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of supplying technology for many schools. Among the most inspiring are the schools that specialize in serving communities with autism and other special needs. While education technology enables learning across the board, the focus on accessibility can change lives.

With careful attention to technological equity, schools have more opportunities than ever before to support academic development for students with special needs.

I believe educators have a duty to provide accessibility-oriented education technology for students.
