This $250 Investment Changed My Life Forever

It is early on during the lockdown, and I am living in my dad’s spare bedroom while attending a local university.

I haven’t had more than $20 in my pocket at one time in years.

I had flunked out of college a few years earlier because I had spent too much time partying and not enough time going to class. So, my parents were wary of the idea of me having more than the bare minimum spending money.

Over the years since flunking out, I had built up a self-discipline that would make me a straight-A student. Still, I hadn’t yet fully made up for the breach of trust caused by my failure.

Now, with Covid-19 keeping me locked into my dad’s apartment all day, I am more stagnant than ever.

I have no money and am completely reliant on my dad for room and board. But when I hear that I will be getting a $500 check from the CARES Act to subsidize my studies, it feels like I just won the lottery.

Therefore, with the anticipation of this windfall coming, I begin to relentlessly study investing.

I pick up a copy of The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham and start reading the first few chapters.

I start looking at Yahoo Finance daily and try to understand how to read stock charts, financial statements, and…
